Tenerife, from the beaches to the Mount Teide

Beach of Teresitas, Tenerife

Closer to Africa than to Spain, in the Atlantic Ocean, there is an archipelago named the Canary Islands. Despite of being that far from Spain, they belong to this country. The biggest of these islands is Tenerife, and like the other ones, it is a volcanic island.

For those in love with nature, this island will become a paradise. It has the highest mountain in Spain and the third tallest volcano in the world: the Mount Teide, and it is also one of the most visited national parks in the world.

One of the natural sceneries most spectacular in Tenerife is el Acantilado de los Gigantes (the Cliff of the Giants), a wall made of volcanic rocks which is 600 meters high, and 15 kilometres long, and that you will be able to visit closely thanks to a boat trip.

If you want, you can jump down the boat and swim in the turquoise waters of the Cliff of the Giants.

Auditorium in Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Santa Cruz de Tenerife is the capital of this island. There you will be able to visit the city, with its auditorium, the España square and the García Sanabria Park, the three most visited places of the capital.

Another interesting city is Puerto de la Cruz, which has many interesting sites. For example the Lagos Martiánez (Martiánez Pools), that consists of seven oases next to the sea, full of salt water from the ocean. What’s more, on the outskirts of the city, we can find the Loro Parque, a park zoo with many animals.

Two of the most impressive beaches in Tenerife are the Benijo beach, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife municipality and the Teresitas beach, in the same municipality.

To conclude, we must highlight the gastronomy of these islands. When you travel there, don’t forget to try “papas arrugadas con mojo picón”.
